my healthy food week: day 1.

Yesterday I decided to do something new this week... After a previous week of takeout (Subway, Burger King, McDonald's, homemade cupcakes with lots of icing, lollies, lots of coke and chocolate) I decided to try a 'healthy food detox', with the conditions made up by myself entirely. I want to attempt a week without defaulting to my usual comfort foods or snacks for the purposes of attempting to boost my energy levels, cleanse my body of junk food/fast food/takeaways, and just experiment to see if a week of healthy food and snacking will have any visible benefit on the way I feel overall by the end of the week. Please note that in no way, shape or form was I inspired to do this detox because of anything to do with my weight or body shape etc. I have no intentions of trying to lose weight, I am only attempting this to try and feel healthier on the inside. (:

What I Decided to Give Up This Week
  • Chocolate
  • Juice
  • Fizzy Drink
  • Lollies
  • Hot Chocolate
  • Milo
  • Coffee
  • Takeaways!
  • Biscuits
  • Chips
  • Cocopops
  • Ice cream
  • Cake
  • Muffins

What I've Allowed Myself to Have This Week
  • Salads
  • Sandwiches
  • Pastas
  • Chicken
  • Fish
  • Beef
  • Eggs
  • Veges
  • Fruit
  • Tea
  • Water
  • Weetbix
  • Toast with Butter
  • Popcorn
  • Yoghurt
  • Nuts

Yes, I am aware that this is unlike the usual "detoxes" you might find online, but I have created this one to suit myself and my own eating patterns/needs. The hardest thing to give up this week will be CHOCOLATE as I am an absolute chocoholic, and find myself craving the stuff at least once a day...

So I started this plan today. This is how it's going so far.

DAY 1:
Had 3 Weetbix for breakfast. Took a Caesar Salad with chicken pieces, water, almonds, banana, apple and 2 toasts with butter to course to eat for morning tea and lunch. Also took some orange juice and let myself have it since I purchased it on Saturday and didn't want it to go to waste! For afternoon tea back at home, I made myself scrambled eggs on toast and then a strawberry yoghurt.

Have not had dinner thus far but any normal dinners will be fine. And probably for snackage while watching TV later tonight, I shall have some popcorn, almonds, tinned peaches and some tea. Bought a new one from the store last night (which I haven't yet tried so hope I like it!) Healtheries Pure Rooibos Tea.

So Day 1 has gone quite well and I am pleased with my efforts, however I am feeling slightly irritable that I can't snack on my yummy bag of M&Ms tonight especially when the chocolate cravings are beginning! :/  Gave the gym a miss today, however I plan on going tomorrow so it will be interesting to see what my energy levels will be like with this decrease of sugars in my diet. Stay tuned to find out how the rest of my week progresses ;)

will i ever find a tea i like?

I'm a coffee person. For most of my life I've avoided tea. My dislike for this beverage all started when I was in class, maybe about 9 years old or so, and the teacher accidentally spilt her mug of milky tea all over the wooden floor... and the smell was disgusting! It made me feel sick. And so ever since then, I've hated tea.

But lately, I've been thinking about tea: its health benefits, and how I'd like to enjoy this hot drink occasionally, if only I liked it! So my new mission is to try several different teas and discover one I actually like! There has to be one out there right?? After all there are like a million flavours (well not quite that many, but you get the exaggeration) available..

Therefore, tonight, I rummaged through a tin of randomly collected tea bag testers, and decided to try a pomegranate, rasberry and green tea with one added sugar. First impression? Ew. But after continuing consumption, I started to find it alright, surprisingly! My mission is off to a good start. (:

What's your favourite tea, hmm?

my cupcake-making adventure.

Sincere apologies for my lack of blogging for over a week! Things have been pretty hectic...!

Anyways, today, since it was a public holiday, I decided to do some baking and have a go at making cupcakes! I thought it would only take me a couple hours to whip up two or three batches... I was wrong. ALL DAY I slaved away in the kitchen, but I did have some fun amongst all the mess I made lol. Mum was a great help too! Aren't they always... ;)

I made a batch of chocolate cupcakes topped with chocolate buttercream icing, choc sprinkles and some with a bit of sprinkled coconut...
And also make a batch of vanilla with pink-coloured buttercream icing, and chocolate sprinkles!

They are imperfect, I admit, however they turned out okay and I'm proud of my efforts! :D haha.. At least they look pretty good?! Hehe...

this was my tuesday.

I'm in a little bit of a lazy mood today and have decided to try doing a blog post off my phone using the blogger app which I downloaded free from the android market. (: Shall see how easy it is...
So far today, I woke up with a semi-head cold after having a sore throat yesterday. So not fun. ):
I had a little bit of a sleep in then got up, "broke the fast" with some breakfast, got ready then proceeded over to Muffin Break to meet my two wonderful, dearest friends for some lunch and a well-needed catchup! They had just been down in the south island, Dunedin, and so i got to hear all about their interesting weekend... That was lovely and quite intriguing too.. The boysenberry muffin and chocolate  milkshake I had were delicious too! (:
At home, I decided to relax and actually read a book for once instead of watching a movie or TV, my usual defaults.. Haha :p I read for an hour, this book called The Favoured Child by Philippa Gregory. It's pretty good so far! (:
After that, although being a bit tired, I was motivated enough to do an hour and fifteen minutes worth of some course work, since I've hardly done any so far these holidays! So I was quite proud of myself for that..hehe.
Also painted my nails black today as I bought a new nail polish and had previously lost my old black paint, so haven't been able to paint my nails black for ages! I love black nails, so classy, edgy and rather chic I say. ;)
Haven't done much else today, but its been a pleasant one! Hopefully the rest of the night goes well too. Spag bol for dinner and hopefully get to see my boy later too. (:
Hope you all had a wonderful day! :D

photo friday: cutie pie!

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to do a photography shoot with my friend's niece, Aleah, who is almost 2 years old. She is such a cutie, with the most amazing blue eyes. We managed to get her in a few different outfits and hairstyles. It was a really good experience as it was my very first time photographing a baby/child this young. It wasn't too easy, but with time, patience, help from her Mummy and Aunty, funny faces, and briberies of chocolate, we managed to successfully score several shots out of the hundreds taken, which I believe turned out rather nicely! Here are a few of the ones I really liked. (:

Isn't she adorable? :D

beautiful interiors. may i live here please?!

Apologies for the lack of blogging this past few days! In my defense, term one of course just ended so I have been preoccupied with a few things. Hope I can make the most of these two-week holidays as I have SO much to do, very unsure and slightly doubtful of getting everything done that's on my To-Do list.. But we shall see...

Anyways, I'm in the mood for looking at amazing, beautiful and/or intriguing interious/homewares today! The following are a bunch of interiors which I find to be quite spectacular and would love it if my future house looked something like these! :D Be sure to really observe each pic and savour the splendour of the contents as there's quite a lot of detail in most of them... ;)
(All images were found under the search words 'interior design' on The sources of each image can be found on there.)

I want a beautiful home of my own someday!! Can't wait! (:
P:S: This is my 60th blog post! YAY me! :D

oh, babey!

Here are a few cute snapshots I took today of one of my cats (the sweeter, cuter one!), Babey. She's so adorable! Love her to bits. She adopted us as her owners and pretty much just made our house her home after giving birth to 2 kittens in our backyard so we have no idea where she came from. She's been with us for over 4 years now I think! She loves to sleep on beds, couches and laps, pretend to be a dog, follow my mum around the house, and act completely innocent...Hehe.
She got a bit annoyed with me constantly shoving the camera in her face trying to get a good pic, as you can tell by the last photo LOL...

what i intend to do this year.

Goals are good. When we set goals, we know what to work towards and what we want to achieve, which in turn helps us to do things we wish to do or to get to a certain point. (: As long as we achieve most of the goals we set for ourselves, we usually feel pretty good about them.. ;) In saying this, I have decided to post a list of things I would like to achieve or do this year (in no particular order of importance)...

  • Read at least 1 fiction book. I need to read more and by "more" I mean more than just a few chapters a year....... ahem.
  • Keep this blog up to date and do at least 3-4 posts per week every week. Gotta keep my lovely readers happy ;)
  • Do a significant amount of various photography shoots
  • Manage my time better when it comes to doing course assignments.
  • Get a tattoo.
  • Learn to cook at least 4 new dinner meals and 2 deserts. (Yeah, I never cook to be honest. Not good.)
  • Keep growing my hair out long. Resist the urge to keep dying it black. (I want to grow out the black so I can dye it a deep, dark red one day!)
  • Save up at least 3 grand in my savings account.
  • Improve my wardrobe and enhance my fashion style.
  • Make more handmade birthday gifts for family and friends.
  • Get a bookshelf in my room for all my books and magazines!
  • Go to a theatre production.
  • Refrain from getting any library book fines.
  • Learn something new (almost) everyday.
  • Eat something new that I have never tried before.
  • Go to a place (town, city) that I have never been to before.
  • Stay committed to going to the gym at least 2-3 times a week and get my money's worth out of it! I need to get my fitness up... (I can't even run for like 1 minute straight without needing a break to catch my breath. Shameful.)
  • Remember the birthdays of everyone important to me.
  • Create and produce a final end-of-year course project that I am happy with and can be proud of.
  • Gather some idea as to what I will be doing with my life next year
  • Keep on drawing closer in my personal relationship with my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, and continue to follow in His ways. (and this, to me, is the most important thing on this list!)
  • Continue to learn to be a patient, loving and selfless person. (:
  • Improve my friendships/relationships that I have with everyone close to me! (Be a better friend, girlfriend, daughter, sister etc.)
  • Bake some goodies occasionally.
  • Buy a new pair of good shoes.

And well that is all I can think of at the moment, but I'm sure there are several more I could add... Anyways, this is all for now, these should keep me busy for the year! Haha. :p

What's one thing you'd like to do this year?

my (failed) attempt at doing a DIY project.

{{Happy 1st of April everyone!}}
I'm slightly disheartened at the moment as I really  wanted to do a DIY tutorial post today on how to do or make [insert cool DIY item here] with an old floral print blouse. You see, I found this old blouse in my wardrobe which I never, ever wear. It's pretty to look at for sure, but not so pretty when it's worn unfortunately. Anyway, it inspired me to make something pretty and/or vintage looking or just something clever, however everything I tried to do with it failed. Rather miserably. I tried to turn it into a wall feature. Fail. Cut off the side strap ties and tried to make them into a headband, bracelet or a hanging ceiling feature. Fail. I also had a few other DIY ideas involving old jewellery, vintage books, or a tissue box. Nothing was good enough. *SIGH* So disappointed. After about an hour of failed or useless DIY attempts/idea generation, I just couldn't come up with anything worth sharing so I decided to just be perfectly open and honest, and just simply share with you my inability to be cleverly creative with an old blouse or any of the other said items. Maybe today just isn't my day for DIY, or perhaps DIY just isn't a subject I should try to blog about very often... Haaa.
Here are some tutorials I thought were quite lovely! Click on the image to see how it's done... (:
(And yes, I know all but one of these are found on 'Oh, Sweet Joy!', but I just really love that blog! Hehe.)

Would love to have a sewing machine so I'd be able to try a few of these out!
