thoughts on blogging.

I've been thinking about blogging lately.
And not just what to blog about, but the actual act of blogging in itself.
For me, blogging is a hobby, something I enjoy doing when I get some spare time to do a post and share with the blogosphere what's going on in my life/mind at that point in time.
It can be fun! It can be exciting! It can even be therapeutic! But it can also be a source of stress/worry. . .

Sometimes I feel guilty/disappointed in myself when I skip a few days or a week without having done a single blog post! I feel like I let my readers down in a way, when this happens. I know I shouldn't be thinking this way!! But sometimes, I just do. It's in this instance that blogging starts to feel more like a chore than a hobby to me. And this is NOT what I want it to be like! And in no way should it be like this.

It shouldn't be about the amount of followers you have, how many comments you get, posting things purely just to impress others, and feeling like a failure if you don't post for a day or five. Rather, it should be about having fun posting what you feel like when you feel like it, and having a hobby that becomes a stress-reliever rather than a stress-creator! And how much sweeter is it when people decide to follow your blog because it's unique to you and what you like and not just a wannabe copy cat of the big time 'blog stars'!

Here is the most vital part of this post:
I recently came across the most perfect post about blogging.
You need to read this.
Just one click and you're there. Go on! It'll only take a minute or two, then come back here and continue on below. . . (And make sure you read right down to the end!)

YES. This is a post which I will probably go back to many times to remind myself of some very important things to remember... To me, this post was definitely a wake-up call/relief/help/though-provoker. Kim says it all so perfectly. I could especially relate to the part where she says:

"Don't get discouraged when your numbers don't grow. Don't be jealous when someone else's blog does grow. I saw this quote somewhere recently:
"Bloggers are your community, not your competition."

So true. Just be yourselves and have fun with your blog and don't worry too much about what other people think! (:

Thanks, Kim @ Oh, Sweet Joy!

friday fancies: favourite summer treat.

Right now, I'm sitting at the computer wrapped up in a blanket, feet and hands slightly frozen, wishing it was a warm, summers day! Doing this week's Friday Fancies post has me thinking of the delicious treats available in the summer time that I cannot wait to indulge in when the temperatures are high, later on in the year! I'm talking watermelon, strawberries, cherries, ice-cold beverages, popsicles, ice-cream and the list goes on! Yummmm. This was the inspiration for this casual 'summer treat' outfit.
Summer Treat
My favourite items would probably be the clutch bag, purple heels and pink skinny jean pants! Bright and popping with colour, this look is only for the brave! And it probably would only be fitting to wear on a sunny day too, I believe. But oh, isn't it fun! ;)

date jar tutorial.

Recently, my boyfriend and I reached the 8 month mark of our relationship. So for that, I wanted to do something special for him. I found the idea on good ol' Pinterest and decided to do my own version: A Date Jar. Good way to vary up the things you do together and helpful for those times when you can't think of something original to do together for a date. Just whip out the date jar and let the fun begin!
Here's how I made mine:

1. Get hold of a nice jar you would like to use.

2. Buy or collect popsicle sticks to write the date ideas on. I purchased some from a cheap craft store for $2 a pack and they were already different colours when I bought them.

3. Write down a list of dates you would be interested in doing with your partner.  Have fun with this and choose some ideas you never would have thought of before! Do some research if you are stuck for ideas. I found most of mine on the internet.

4. Write down the date ideas on the popsicle sticks and categorize them by date price (this is how I chose to do it). I made the green sticks free dates, the yellow ones cheap dates, the orange ones medium priced, and the red ones expensive dates.

5. Once all your ideas have been written down, collect the sticks in a pile and shuffle them if you want the categories/colours to mix.

6. Place the sticks into your chosen jar.
7. Make a tag for the jar to explain the colour code. (I rushed this part so it looked a bit messy but no worries!)

8. Use scissors to cut a strip of ribbon (any colour) to attach the tag to the jar.

9. Done! Now all you have to do is gift it to your partner! Or if it's for you or both of you, pull out a popsicle stick and organise to do the date written on it. Fun! :D

current loves #2.

Lovely people commenting on my blog posts!
I have recently been getting more and more comments especially on Friday Fancies posts, which has been fantastic, and truly encouraging to me! I haven't had the ability to go through and reply to each one individually, but I would like you to know that if you have commented, it has not gone unnoticed! Each one makes me smile so I would like to thank all of you who have left one, you are all sooo sweet. (: I personally wish each of you and your blogs all the best. :D

The up-cycling of old books. Have been experimenting with this in the studio at the moment for a recent class exhibition coming up in August. More on this in the near future!

Hershey's Milk Chocolate Kisses. I ALWAYS am loving chocolate, I have to admit. Literally cannot go one single day without getting my chocolate fix. Recently got gifted these by a good friend of mine and have thoroughly enjoying them since! A few a day go down real well... ;)

Friendships and relationships. These are a constant love obviously but are very prominent in my life right now. I am massively blessed to have such wonderful, extraordinary best friends (D & J) who remain constant in my life no matter what happens or where we are. We remain close and it is always such a treat to spend time with them! I am also blessed with a lovely, sweetheart boyfriend (E) who is also always there for me and spoils me so much! He's such a darling. (: xx.

Weetbix. I'm very much loving this simple, cheap breakfast cereal at the moment! Weird, I know. I have 2 or 3 at a time, with sugar and milk. YUM! For some reason, I'm just not getting sick of having it lol haha... I could eat weetbix for breakfast, when I need a snack, lunch or for dessert. And I do. Not even joking.
What are you loving at the moment? Care to share? (:

me and my two best girls in hamilton.

Recently (as in about 2 weekends ago), me and my two best friends spent the weekend together in Hamilton. It was so much fun! We stayed with D's parents so free accommodation was great and very appreciated. Some of the awesome things we got up to included. . .
Having dinner at restaurant we had never tried.
Dancing our feet off on Saturday night 'til 3am!
Spending most of the day exploring and taking photos at the Hamilton Gardens. It's massive.
Having a lovely, quiet night in with a yummy roast pork dinner and a DVD on Sunday night.
Shopping on Monday at the mall. Due to my current financial situation I was unable to make many purchases of my own but still had a fun time helping them pick out a few new outfits!
Going out just for dessert to this restaurant called The Bank. So delicious & reasonably priced!
Playing this card game together called Dutch Blitz on Monday night.
A quick stop at Dunkin' Donuts (delish and I can't resist!) then home time on Tuesday morning.

Fair to say I was a bit snap-happy that weekend! Was good to get some new recent photos of us three since we hadn't had any in a while! Here's a bit of a photo heavy scroll to sum up the weekend:

Yes we had a blast indeed! :D My girls are truly amazing ladies!

friday fancies: euro trip.

Hello all!
I am aware that I have been absent from blogging for an entire week. Shameful! However, just to update you: I went away 2 weekends ago with my two best friends and we had a blast together (shall do a post on this soon even though it was awhile ago now!) ALSO, my holidays have sadly come to an end and my course has resumed for the final semester of this year and my entire degree! Eek! 1 more semester and I will have a bachelor of Visual Arts and Design! Wow. Feels weird to think about. So yes, this next half year will be an extremely busy one. You will just have to bear with me when my posts become scarce at times. . . Never fear, though, I shall always return! ;)
And since it's Friday once again (My my! This week just FLEW by), it's link up time for my Friday Fancies! This week's theme at {longdistanceloving} is EURO TRIP. So, I imagined what I would wear if I was walking around on a sunny summer's day, sightseeing and looking fab at some beautiful European destination! Here's what I put together:

As you can see, the main colours I chose for this outfit are navy blue, tan, and white. This look as a whole is quite casual but stylish at the same time. I love the flowy, white blouse paired with the cute shorts. That bag is amazing, very much wish I owned it. Also loving the cute camera ring to allude to the touristy/travel theme. Also, I love photography and if I actually did go on a summer euro trip, I would be snapping away like there's no tomorrow! ;)

Hope you all have a smashing weekend! (:
P:S: I will do my best to blog more this week so stay tuned... ;)

friday fancies: wedding guest.

Hey lovely people! You know the drill! Linking up again with {longdistanceloving} for this weeks Friday Fancies post! The theme this week is 'Wedding Guest', so I created an outfit I would simply love to wear as a guest to a wedding!

I'm loving mint green at the moment so I chose a dress this colour for the main feature of this set. It's such a cute dress, I love it. Love the cinched waist and pleats, also the bubble hem! To add contrast and enhance the overall look, I paired the dress with some cute, black lacy heels, silver, black and turquoise jewellery and a very stylish silver clutch purse accented with a lovely black bow down the centre. To finish off the look, black nails! So chic and stylish! I love black nail polish. It never gets old. ;)

What do you think? Leave me a comment and include a link to your wedding guest Friday Fancies outfit and I'll have a look! (:

what's in my make-up bag?

Yes. I own a makeup bag, and yes, I love makeup. I love owning it, buying it (from makeup sales in particular!) wearing it, applying it to myself and putting it onto others. Especially eye makeup. The eyes speak volumes. ;)
Anyways, thought you might find it interesting to take a little peak into my makeup bag and to have a look-see at what's inside!
Disclaimer: The included items shown in this post are just the ones I use the most. I own a lot more makeup stashed away in draws and scattered below my mirror...Way too much to show!

So these are my top used makeup items...
The ones in bold are the ones I especially cannot go without!

Revlon powder brush
Eyeshadow brush
Eyeliner brush
Blush brush

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer
Maybelline Super Stay Foundation
Australis Fresh and Flawless Pressed Powder
Revlon PhotoReady Finishing Powder
Avon Bronzer (in a random container)
Revlon Pressed Powder Blush

Maybelline Eye Studio Gel Eyeliner
Rimmel Eyeshadow brown
Maybelline Eye Studio eyeshadow green
Maybelline Eye Studio eyeshadow purple
Rimmel Extra Super Lash Mascara

Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm
CoverGirl Red Lipstick

You can tell which brands I tend to go for, right.... ;) What's your absolute favourite item of makeup if you have one?

friday fancies: stars and stripes.

Once again, I am linking up with {longdistanceloving} for this week's 'My Friday's Fancies'! The theme is 'Stars and Stripes', so rather than go for the usual American patriotic colours - red, white and blue - I chose to go for gold, white and black for a more chic, elegant feel. (And also, I'm not from America... hehe.)

The satin gold blouse (to be tucked into the skirt) is the main feature of this outfit and has thick, layered strips of material proceeding outward from the collar. The pencil skirt is white and black stripes with a lovely layered material feature around the top which brings the eye from the top of the skirt,  down. The black wedge heels have some gold trimming which relates to the blouse as well as the gold stars on the white clutch purse. The stud earrings are also black and white stripes to match the skirt, and the black and silver star ring adds to the inclusion of the star shape to the outfit. (That ring is so cute, wish it was mine!) To complete the look, I've added a very classy 3/4 sleeve black blazer jacket to be worn over the top. I actually really love this outfit! If I owned it, I would wear out to fancy dinners, the theatre, night clubs and just about any formal event! I think the gold and black combination is timeless. (:

blog spotlight: candy land.

Welcome to my first ever 'blog spotlight' post!
The first to get featured here and one of my awesome sponsors is...
This blog is one of my absolute favourites!!
I have absolutely adored it ever since I started reading it, and it's been a little while now! Candy Land is written by the beautiful, talented, very sweet Candice. She writes so well and has a great sense of humour which I love! Her posts are all so interesting and once you start reading it's hard to stop! She blogs about wedding themes, fashion and style, food and recipes, photography, her thoughts and ideas on things, family, 'the boy', love and her life in general. I am so glad to have stumbled upon this blog. I could honestly spend hours perusing around unable to resist going through post after post catching up on all the past ones I've missed! (:
Candice gives a unique insight into her world through the photographs she puts up, and through the words she uses to re-tell the stories and experiences which she goes through. Just through reading her posts, you get a sense of what it's like living in her exciting world and it also becomes apparent how much of a lovely, kind, delightful and humorous person she is; the kind of girl I believe everyone would be so blessed to have as a friend. (:

Some of my favourite posts (was so hard to choose as there are so many which I love!) :

Also did a bit of a photo grab to show you some of the sweet visuals you'll come across while reading through her blog...

You lovely readers of mine have just got to pop over and check it out! (: Don't forget to say hello and become a follow too... You'll be in for a treat if you do! ;)
