we always want what we can't have.

How true is this?!?!

It's a phrase we hear a lot, I bet. Well, I know I have anyway! We always want what we cannot have. Be it objects, aspects of another persons physique or body shape/size, hair colour or style, lifestyle, intelligence, abilities, talents and basically almost any desirable thing you could think of!  But do we really every stop and seriously think about this commonly said phrase? Probably not as chances are it will usually make us more unhappy about ourselves or that we don't have the things that we really want that others do have. However, I was thinking about this today and wondering how we could maybe turn it around into a positive personal reminder to make us feel better/happier about ourselves/our situations etc.

Let me explain.

If you twist it around and think about it in a different way, we will realise that we have things that other people would want! Including physical things such as body size/shape! There is always someone (or more realistically at least 20,000 people) who would be highly envious of what you have. There is ALWAYS people who are a lot worse off than you in more ways than one! Next time you are feeling down on yourself because of how you look, remember that you are actually blessed with what you do have. You really are. Honest. And next time you feel sad because of the things you don't have/can't do/can't afford, keep in mind that there are literally millions of people who have next to nothing and will never own even 1/25th of what you have!

It's all about PERSPECTIVE, people. The key word here.

You may not ever be able to have what others have or look how others look or be how others are, but you are YOU and there are people out there wanting what you have whether you think so or not. So how about we start making a conscious effort to make the most of what we do have and stop wasting precious time feeling down on ourselves or envying others? God made you and loves you just the way you are. If He does, then should we not learn to do the same?? Easier said than done, I know. But when we hear this phrase we should learn to think of it in a positive way and learn to be happy with what we've got. (:

friday fancies: road trip.

How is everyone on this sunny Friday morning? That's right, it's Friday. My oh my how the weeks are flying!  Bring on the weekend! (: I realise I haven't done a Friday Fancies post for the past 2 weeks, and for that, I do give my apologies. But here we are today and yes I have participated in this week's theme, Road Trip.

When I picture a road trip, I always think of hot summer days for some reason... Therefore, I went for a Summer outfit. Also, our Summer here in New Zealand has not yet begun, so I am anxiously awaiting its arrival! Got to finish Winter and get through Spring first..

The main feature of this outfit is the peach/pink coloured blouse! Nice and flowy, perfect for a sunny day. Of course to go with that you need some short denim shorts, sandals and sunnies! To top off the look, I chose a rose flower headband, and a tan tassel handbag which compliment the naturalistic feel of the outfit. Also, love the 3 heart skinny rings and the nail polish is a very cute colour! Can I have this outfit please?!

pin-tastic.

I haven't been on Pinterest in a while!! Well, until today, that is. I'm amazed at the never ending screeds of goodness and amazing things found on there! It still blows my mind.

Anyhoo, here are some of my recent faves from there from a few of my boards... Check it! All are pretty self explanatory.

All these pin-tastic (excuse the cheesiness, k guys!) beauties can be found upon the boards of my Pinterest if you would like to find the sources! Happy Wednesday everyone! The end of the week is nearing... ;)

physical exercise anyone?

Hello there, my faithful readers! Apologies for my short hiatus. I have actually been incredibly busy in more ways that one {academically/physically/mentally/emotionally}. I would also like to remind you that I am in my last semester of my design degree, so finding the time to blog very regularly will be a challenge and has already proven to be so...!

{via}

One thing that has been on my mind a lot this past week is healthy eating and exercise. Something tells me I am not alone on this. Recently, I have decided to get back into is doing regular exercise during the week. Someone told me the other day that any exercise is better than no exercise! Good words.

I have a confession to make. Up until very recently, I hardly exercised. Like, never. I have been put in the 'slim' category basically all my life because of a fast metabolism, so people will say to me, "You don't even NEED to exercise, look at you!" I disagree because exercise isn't and shouldn't ONLY be about losing weight. It's about keeping your body and mind healthy, improving fitness and the quality of life etc. This is why I was becoming more and more unhappy with myself. Not because of my size/weight, but because on the inside, I felt like a big, lazy slob. Kinda harsh, but true. I didn't feel healthy on the inside.

My eating habits haven't been too wise either, lately... To be honest, I began to put on weight. Not that I weigh myself much ever, but I could visually notice a change in my body... Guess where the weight goes on me??? BUM, HIPS AND THIGHS. How do I know I've gained? Well, I tried on a pair of my favourite summer short shorts....... I could barely get them on, let alone move in them! Not even kidding.Talk about utter disappointment. This was the point where I made the decision to finally get back into a more active lifestyle, and undertake some form of exercise, rather than none!

I would just like to stress that my main goal is not to lose weight. Rather, the aim is to TONE UP and improve my FITNESS, a.k.a actually gain a fitness level. 'Cause right now, it's zero. No lies. Can't even run for like 10 seconds without getting puffed. Not proud of this at all.

I realise this is going to be no easy task. It never is, never has been and it never will be. There's always deliciously bad food available. There's always a lazy attitude waiting for me. There's always a lack of motivation. There's always something less painful to be doing. But I NEED to do it! I want to feel good in my own skin and happy with myself on the INSIDE as well as the outside. I want to fit into my favourite short shorts again in time for summer. And I want to generally be a much more fit and active person.

I want to highly commend anyone who has this working out regularly (as in 3-7 times a week) thing down-packed!! Whether it be by playing a sport, going to the gym, going for runs or doing personal workouts, I am very envious of where you are at! You obviously have the motivation and mental strength which I am severely lacking in at the moment. I want this to change! I want to improve slowly steadily but surely and get to where YOU are. You are my inspiration. Keep up the great work. :D

If you have made it this far down the post, I will leave you with these words which I constantly try to remind myself of: Don't exercise regularly because you hate your body or how you look, exercise because you love your body and want what's best for it (or so you should!) Also, exercise should be fun, not a chore!

Any thoughts? Would love to hear what you have to say!

blog spotlight: put flowers in the mud, baby.

It's long since overdue that I finally did a blog spotlight on this blog, owned and kept by my best friend! She started her blog before I started mine and was actually the inspiration behind me wanting to start a blog of my own! There would be no blog here right now if it weren't for her. (:

A bit of background? We met when we were ten as we used to go to the same church. Then we went through all of intermediate school (like junior high) and high school together! It was at the latter that we really solidified our friendship into one that is life-long and unbreakable. We have remained close through our 2 and a half years of tertiary studies so far despite her living 2 hours away in another city and attending another university.

She is truly an amazing person in every way, one who has made a lasting impact on my life in these past 10 years, and continues to do so. I honestly believe that we will still be close right up into our 80's and beyond, grey hair, wrinkles and all! ;) Love this girl so much and she will always be in my heart no matter what.

HER BLOG {Put Flowers In the Mud, Baby} is awesome. Definitely remains one of my favourites, that's for sure. It's so unique and true to who she is; she doesn't try to have a blog like everyone else but writes what she wants when she wants. Did I mention she is currently a journalist student at uni? Therefore, she is an excellent writer and I am immensely proud of her.

What does she blog about, you ask? Well, anything and everything basically! Definitely something for everyone I would say.... entertainment, food, books, friends, adventures, fashion, movies, music, travel, and her own life in general as a uni student!! Definitely a blog worth following!

A few of my favourite posts (was very hard to choose as there are a HEAP which I love)

Below is a photo grab of some pics off her blog!

Please be friendly and pop over to her blog and say hello! :D

Some awesome truths. Things which I constantly am needing to be reminded of as such things are so easily forgotten or disregarded... I need to be thinking upon these things more often!

friday fancies: t-shirt time.

Wowsers, August! You've come around so quickly, it's almost unbelievable!
Anyhoo, welcome readers. Yes, it is that time of the week again. Friday Fancies link up with {av}! This week, it's 'T-Shirt Time'. What a fun theme!

I based my outfit on the black tee with the big, white anchor graphic on it. I love anchors at the moment! Probably due to the fact that I may very well be getting an actual anchor tattoo with my bestie this year sometime. I am excited! Anyways, I chucked a pair of white skinnies with the top to keep it casual. (Yes, I love skinnies. Wished they actually looked this perfect on my legs though! lol..)  By the way, they were meant to be white but for some reason they appear slightly yellowish for some reason? Oh well, you get the picture.. ;) To top off this casual, nautical themed look, I added a navy blue bag and ring, some sunnies, a blue, white and gold chunky bracelet, and some black chucks. The black nail polish adds and extra edge to the outfit. Plus I love black nail polish any day. All in all, I'd totally wear every single piece of this outfit. It's working for me for sure! ;)
